All of our suicide prevention training courses are available to individual learners.

Our trainers have decades of experience, giving our trainees safe spaces to explore sensitive subjects.

What to expect from our courses

Training with Grassroots Suicide Prevention gives people practical, accurate and helpful knowledge. We cover topics like mental health, suicide and self-harm. Courses will discuss causes and factors, warning signs to look for, and having difficult conversations. Every situation is different, so we approach these topics with kindness, practicality and plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

Suicide prevention training courses range from simple, half-day programs to in-depth courses over two days. Some public programs teach basic skills like recognising and starting conversations, whereas others follow through from conversation to intervention. You’ll find more information about the range of public training courses available in the course filter below.

Public Training FAQ

One of the best ways to prevent suicide is by talking about it.

Our training courses give you safe, supported spaces to learn how to start difficult conversations and help someone at risk in the safest and most immediate way. Education is at the core of what Grassroots Suicide Prevention does, and our range of mental health and suicide prevention training is intended to help as many people as possible learn to help.

All our training is suitable for the public, but it is down to each individual learner to decide if they are ready and able to confront potentially challenging and upsetting topics. Most courses involve direct discussions about suicide, appropriate language, self-harm and asking about suicidal thoughts. Our approach helps to reduce stigma and help trainees tackle the topic of suicide head-on.

We understand if you are not ready, and we recommend looking at some of our other resources if you are struggling.

We will do our best to transfer your place to a later date where possible. All other bookings will be refunded within the following policy:

  • Less than 3 working days notice: Not refundable
  • 4-10 working days notice: 50% of fee
  • 11-15 working days notice: 25% of fee
  • Over 15 working days notice: Fully refundable

All discounted/funded tickets are non-refundable.

We are fortunate to be able to collaborate with city and county councils and charities in the UK to provide funded training opportunities.
