Streaming and gaming for our charity

Calling all streamers, gamers, and content creators - you have the power to make a real difference! Whether you're playing your favourite game, sharing your creative talents, or simply chatting with your community, your livestream can help save lives.

Make a difference: stream to support suicide prevention

You can make a difference. By supporting us, you will be giving more people the tools to identify warning signs, talk to others about suicide risk factors and issues affecting people at risk, and signpost life-saving resources to help reduce the number of lives lost to suicide each year.

Plan your stream, go live, and make an impact. Together, we can prevent suicide.

How to stream for charity

Step 1: Choose your challenge

Host a multiplayer tournament, stream the latest release, or even go old-school with a board game night—how you fundraise is entirely up to you. Pick a challenge that excites you and your community.

Step 2: Get set to stream

Sign up to a streaming platform. We recommend Twitch – Signing up to Twitch is straightforward and there are resources for first-time users.

Head to the Twitch signup page to start.

Step 3: Create your fundraising page

Sign up on JustGiving or Tiltify and create your fundraising page—it only takes a few minutes! Personalise it with your story, goal, and why you’re supporting this cause. The platforms will guide you through the process, making it easy to get started and share your page with others.

Step 4: . Sign up and go live

Let us know you’re raising money by signing up to download our charity overlays, fundraising guide, and more. Spread the word—tell your followers what you’re doing, when, and most importantly, why. Every donation helps make a difference!

Looking after yourself

Taking care of yourself during a streaming challenge is just as important as the cause you’re supporting. Long hours on stream can be physically and mentally demanding, so it’s essential to prioritise your well-being while making a difference.

  • Choose content that won’t be upsetting or triggering for you
  • Learn how to banish trolls and troublemakers
  • Know the signs of gaming addiction and when you should stop or take a break
  • Find out how to keep yourself safe online
  • Stay connected with Grassroots Suicide Prevention as well as friends and family to make sure you’re prepared
  • Drink water and take toilet breaks
  • Eat a meal (don’t just snack)
  • Take some breaks to rest your eyes and stretch your muscles
  • Keep an eye out for scams or viewers trying to take advantage of other viewers

Please note that by agreeing to fundraise for Grassroots Suicide Prevention you are subject to our Terms & Conditions.

We recommend 6, 12 or 24 hours of streaming to challenge yourself and your creativity.

We know this isn’t possible for everyone, so please choose a stream length that is right for you, your schedule and your energy levels.

We recommend Twitch as the streaming platform and JustGiving or Tiltify as the fundraising platform, but there are many alternatives you could use instead.

Mixer, Facebook, YouTube and GoFundMe also offer streaming and/or fundraising options.

We encourage you to take regular breaks to eat, drink, look away from screens and stretch your muscles. It is up to you whether you want to include breaks in your total streaming time or pause the clock when you get up.

If you get in touch and tell us you are streaming to raise money for Grassroots Suicide Prevention, we can support you with advice, guidance on effective fundraising, access to our Fundraising Hub, and a real person from GSP to support you on your journey.

You will have the opportunity to make a real difference in savings lives from suicide, becoming part of our huge group of dedicated fundraisers. Our community is so important to us and we value each and every person who finds us and chooses to support our life-saving work.

There are also a number of overlays with basic information about suicide prevention which you are welcome to use to help educate your viewers.

The platform you choose will guide you in how to set up and link your fundraising page.

That’s okay! Streaming isn’t for everyone.

If you’d like to do something else or get involved in another way, take a look at:

Streaming platforms have specific guidance on what you can and can’t do. When you sign up, there will be some terms to agree to that outline this rule. Please read them carefully.

Grassroots Suicide Prevention does not condone streaming explicit content.

There’s no date or deadline, stream whenever you want!

You could share your plans and stream link on social media before and during your stream.

You might want to text or email friends, family or colleagues, or leave messages in different forums or chatrooms that you use (like Reddit or Discord).

If you get in touch to tell us about your stream and tag us on Instagram or X (Twitter), we may be able to share your stream info to our audience.
