ARXX are an all-girl alt-rock duo from Brighton who have something to say. With influences of grunge, pop and punk, their eclectic, powerfully written music can’t be neatly placed into a single genre. They use their music and platform to speak up for what they believe in and support causes close to their hearts. Hi I’m Jo I manage the Gig Buddies for good mental health project in Sussex.
This year the theme for World Suicide Prevention Day was “Working Together”, reminding us we can all make a difference in our communities.
We are always super grateful to all of our fundraisers because they enable us to do the work we do and are a great way of spreading awareness for suicide prevention.
Last month we delivered a Real Talk suicide prevention workshop at the Sea View Centre in Hastings. We ran the session for 15 community members, enabling them to have open and honest conversations about suicide.
For me, a turning point was when I realised that the secret that I had held so buried and precious for so long, had slowly reached the place where I now both wanted and needed to acknowledge and talk about it.
Music, singing, laughter and magic – not words you would usually associate with ‘suicide prevention’ but this is exactly what we had for the first episode of our Grassroots bi-monthly Gig, which took place in Brighton on March 6th 2019.
Who is Real Talk for? All kinds of people and from all sorts of backgrounds. Everyone is welcome.
